Day 1 – Arrival @Colombo Airport

Day 2 – Negombo– Sigiriya

• Leave for Sigiriya after Breakfast
• Visit Dambulla Rock Caves Temple en-route; dating back to the 1st century BC, this is the most impressive cave temple in Asia. It has five caves under a vast overhanging rock, carved with a drip line to keep the interiors dry. Inside the caves, the ceilings are painted with intricate patterns of religious images following the contours of the rock.
• After lunch Go on a Safari in Minneriya National Park (Park Open from 2:30pm to 6:00pm); Minneriya National Park is situated in the north-central plains of Sri Lanka, 20 kilometers from Polonnaruwa. Even though it is one of the smallest national parks in the country, covering just 8,889 hectares, it’s a paradise with many natural wonders. The park encompasses the beautiful Minneriya tank, built by King Mahasena (in 3rd century AD). This tank is an incredible place to observe the elephants that come to bathe and graze on the grasses in large numbers as well as the huge flocks of birds (cormorants, painted storks, open-bills, Pelicans and many other species of waders) that come to fish in the shallow waters. Any given day you could see elephants over hundred gathered around the Lake coming to feed on the grass by the lake.

Day 3 – Sigiriya

• Breakfast at Hotel
• Climb the Sigiriya Rock Fortress after an early Breakfast. Take plenty of water and a snack with you.
• Sigiriya (Lion’s Rock) is an ancient Rock Fortress and Palace ruin situated in the central Matale District of Sri Lanka, surrounded by the remains of an extensive network of gardens, reservoirs, and other structures. A popular tourist destination, Sigiriya is also renowned for its ancient paintings (frescos), which are reminiscent of the Ajanta Caves of India. The Sigiriya was built during the reign of King Kassapa I (AD 477– 495), and it is one of the seven World Heritage Sites of Sri Lanka. Sigiriya may have been inhabited through prehistoric times. It was used as a rock-shelter mountain monastery from about the 5th century BC, with caves prepared and donated by devotees to the Buddhist Sangha. According to the chronicles as Mahavamsa the entire complex was built by King Kashyapa, and after the king’s death, it was used as a Buddhist monastery until 14th century
• Visit Polonnaruwa Ancient Capital; the island’s medieval capital (11c & 12c) rose to fame after the decline of Anuradhapura kingdom. The city in its day was fortified with three concentric walls, beautified with parks and gardens and sanctified by many shrines. Polonnaruwa shows the interesting blend of the influence of the South Indian Hindu Culture on the Sinhala Buddhist Art and Architecture in the scattered shrines and monuments still venerated daily by devotees.

Day 4 – Sigiriya – Kandy

• After Breakfast leave Proceed to Kandy; Visit a spice Garden on the way to see many different types of spices Sri Lanka is famous for. You will be introduced to different spices and shown how some of these spices are grown and processed.Visitors may buy spices, traditional remedies and cosmetics, taste an herbal brew and in some venues
• Witness a Traditional Cultural Dance Show (Optional)
• Go on a City Tour; Visit the Markets, Gem Museum, etc….
• Stay Overnight in Kandy

Day 5 – Kandy

• After Breakfast visit Peradeniya Botanical Gardens; one of the best of its kind in the world. The many beautiful avenues will lead one to sections which provide a burst of topical colour. The best known attraction of the Garden is the Orchid House, which has more than 300 varieties of exquisite orchids from the rare indigenous Foxtail and Vesak orchids.
• Visit the Temple of Tooth Relic; Temple of Tooth Relic is a Buddhist temple in the city of Kandy, Sri Lanka. It is located in the royal palace complex which houses the Relic of the tooth of Buddha. Since ancient times, the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. Kandy is a UNESCO world heritage site partly due to the temple.Witness the offerings made to the Tooth Relic during the day; Morning offering made at 5.30 am to 7 am. Alms offered before Midday (lunch) at 9.30am-11am.Evening offerings begins at 6.30pm to 8pm
• Go on a City Tour; Visit the Markets, Gem Museum, etc….
• Stay Overnight in Kandy

Day 6&7 – Nuwara Eliya

• In the morning after breakfast leave to Peradeniya Railway Station, and board the train and leave for Nuwara Eliya Hills. Enjoy the picturesque journey from your Carriage, the train snaking its way through the mountains through the tea country. The Car will follow you to NanuOya, The Last Station before Nuwara Eliya.
• Proceed by the Car to Nuwara Eliya; Nuwara Eliyais the land of peace, and silence was called the hill station by the English Tea Planters during the colonial era. This is a very picturesque location almost 1,950 Meters above sea level with its soft English spring climate. Yet you could see nostalgia of the British Colonial era the town is decorated with buildings ranging in style from Georgian to Queen Anne. Parks, Trout Streams, 18 holes Golf Course, in the evening stroll through the city.
• Trek in Horton Plains; Horton Plain is a hauntingly desolate, windswept plateau set at an elevation of over 2000 meters from the sea level. A world apart from rest of Sri Lanka the plains offer excellent trekking including a circular 9 Km walk to the Worlds end, where the hill plunge as dramatically for near 1000 m offering marvelous views of the Southern Sri Lanka on a clear day
• Afternoon see the Lovers Leap water fall and a tea factory close to Nuwara Eliya
• Overnight stay at Nuwara Eliya

Day 8 to 10 – Bentota OR Hikkaduwa

• Leave for Bentota OR Hikkaduwa at leisure
• Check in to the Hotel & Relax
• Visit the World Heritage Site; Galle Fort & City
• Galle is the best example of a fortified city built by Europeans in South and South-East Asia, showing the interaction between European architectural styles and South Asian traditions. The Galle Fort is a world heritage site and the largest remaining Fortress in Asia built by European occupiers.
• Boat Safari in Madhu River
• Visit a Turtle Conservation Center
• Visit The Lunuganga Estate [Bawa Gardens/Brief Gardens] – OPTIONAL; was the country house of the renowned Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa. The estate had been used as a cinnamon estate during the Dutch era and then a rubber plantation under the British. In 1948, the small house in the estate was given on rent to the local tax collector.

Day 11 – Colombo

• Leave for Colombo at soon after Breakfast

You can see a 100-year-old clock tower and several British built colonial buildings, Hindu and a Buddhist temple, residential areas where you find the stately homes of the affluent, the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH); an outright gift to Sri Lanka from the People’s Republic of China, the Parliament Building, etc…

Day 12 – Airport
