Day 2 – Colombo – Kithulgala

Day 3 – Kithulgala – Nawalapitiya – Nuwara Eliya

• Proceed to Nawalapitiya [close to Kithulgala] Railway Station in time for the Train to Nuwara Eliya; Enjoy the picturesque journey from your Carriage, the train snaking its way through the mountains through the tea country.
• Proceed by the Car to Nuwara Eliya; Nuwara Eliya is the land of peace, and silence was called the hill station by the English Tea Planters during the colonial era. Day 4 – Nuwara Eliya – Kandy

• Trek in Horton Plains; Horton Plain is a hauntingly desolate, windswept plateau set at an elevation of over 2000 meters from the sea level. A world apart from rest of Sri Lanka the plains offer excellent trekking including a circular 9 Km walk to the Worlds end, where the hill plunges dramatically for near 1000 m offering marvelous views of to the South.

• Visit the Temple of Tooth Relic – OPTIONAL; Temple of Tooth Relic is a Buddhist temple in the city of Kandy, Sri Lanka. Since ancient times, the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. Kandy is a UNESCO world heritage site partly due to the temple. Witness the offerings made to the Tooth Relic during the day; Morning offering made at 5.30 am to 7 am. Day 5 – Kandy – Sigiriya

• Leave the Hotel after Breakfast and travel to Sigiriya
• Visit Dambulla Rock Caves Temple en-route; dating back to the 1st century BC, this is the most impressive cave temple in Asia. It has five caves under a vast overhanging rock, carved with a drip line to keep the interiors dry. Inside the caves, the ceilings are painted with intricate patterns of religious images following the contours of the rock.
• Go on a Safari in Minneriya National Park (Park Open from 2:30pm to 6:00pm); Minneriya National Park is situated in the north-central plains of Sri Lanka, 20 kilometers from Polonnaruwa. Even though it is one of the smallest national parks in the country, covering just 8,889 hectares, it’s a paradise with many natural wonders. The park encompasses the beautiful Minneriya tank, built by King Mahasena (in 3rd century AD). This tank is an incredible place to observe the elephants that come to bathe and graze on the grasses in large numbers as well as the huge flocks of birds (cormorants, painted storks, open-bills, Pelicans and many other species of waders) that come to fish in the shallow waters. Any given day you could see elephants over hundred gathered around the Lake coming to feed on the grass by the lake.

Day 6 – Sigiriya – Trincomalee OR Passikudah

• Climb the Sigiriya Rock Fortress after an early Breakfast. Take plenty of water and a snack with you.
• Sigiriya (Lion’s Rock) is an ancient Rock Fortress and Palace ruin situated in the central Matale District of Sri Lanka, surrounded by the remains of an extensive network of gardens, reservoirs, and other structures. A popular tourist destination, Sigiriya is also renowned for its ancient paintings (frescos), which are reminiscent of the Ajanta Caves of India. The Sigiriya was built during the reign of King Kassapa I (AD 477– 495), and it is one of the seven World Heritage Sites of Sri Lanka. Sigiriya may have been inhabited through prehistoric times. It was used as a rock-shelter mountain monastery from about the 5th century BC, with caves prepared and donated by devotees to the Buddhist Sangha. According to the chronicles as Mahavamsa the entire complex was built by King Kashyapa, and after the king’s death, it was used as a Buddhist monastery until 14th century.

Day 10 – Kandy – Sigiriya

• Leave for Sigiriya after Breakfast.
